FINALLLL BLOG

Three Literary Pieces I Chose:
"Captured by Feministas"
"Dreams"
"We Real Cool"

“Dreams” influences me because the poem sends an important message. In the poem, the first two lines says to hold fast to dreams and for if dreams die, to me those lines mean to have dream about something you should hold on to and not let go, and to hard hard to let that dream come true, because if you don't the dreams will slowly fadd away, or you will forget all about what your dream was and what it was for. For instance, just a couple weeks ago I was in an Orientation Process for an organization and my dream was to finish and make it through my Orientation Process and everyday during my Orientation Process I always remembered that in order to finish my Process and make it through is to remember my dream or goal is to become apart of a great organzation in the end. So i set my mind to it everyday and remember that my dream will come true if I get through this and if i did not a dream that i once had will just die, and today I am part of a great organization. My opinion is that a dream is just like a goal, in order to have a dream come true, you have to put your all into it to make it come true, just like a goal you have to put your all in it to accomplish your goal.

"We Real Cool" influences me because the poem reminds me of when I was in highschool. In the poem Gwendolyn Brooks says "We Left School", and the poem reminds you of kids leaving school probably when they were not suppose to and doing things they were not suppose to either. It reminds me of when I was in Highschool because when i was in HIghschool I had my first car during my freshmen year, which was a big mistake. Having a car Freshmen year, and at the time already not liking to go to school. Me and my friends would show up to school and during lunch we use to leave and skip classes and go wherever we wanted, and did whatever we wanted to do. We did it for one day and it turned out to be an everyweek thing which made our grades loook very ugly.

"The Road Not Taken" in my opinion is about having two decision and you do not know what decision to make or which road to take. this poem influences me because I am always stuck at a decision at every I do. I always take forever at what i have to do because i never know which one to decide on. In the poem it states that Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry i could not travel both. Those lines in the poem reminds me of when it is time for me to make a decision i never know which decision to make, because I am always wondering which decision is the best decision. In the poem it states I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. in my opinion those lines means that in the end the decision you chose is what you chose and what happens happens, whether if it is good or bad. When i finally make my decision sometimes it may be a good decision. If it was a bad decision that I have made, I always learned from it and never to make the same decision again.

5 Poems

Poems

Dylan Thomas-Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

1. Emotions and feelings i have after reading this poem is confused because i d onot really understand what the poem is really about, but it seems like the poem has to do with something dark and sad, and scary.

2. My chosen image reflect th emotions conjured to the poem because the peom made me feel like someone in the poem or the author may have been scared or sad in the dark or may be goign through problems in the alone and it may make the person feel like there in the dark scared or sad.

Gwendolyn Brooks-We real Cool

1. Emotions and feelings i had after reading the poem is someone having fun, or having fun when he or shes not suppose to. I fee llike the poem is about a young person just wanting to have fun and does not want to be in school.

2. The chosen image reflects my emotions conjured in the poem because when i was reading the poem, I had an image in my head of a teenager or teens skipping school and going somewhere to hang out and get in trouble.

Emily Dickinson-I felt a Funeral in My Brain

1. Emotions and Feelings I have after reading the poem is that the writer is sad or may be going through alot of problems and may not know how to handle it.

2. The chosen image i chose reflects the poem because the image is a girl who looks like she is going through alot with problems and looks lost because she probably does not know how to handle her problems and she looks sad.

Robert Frost- The Road Not Taken

1. Emotions and Feelings I felt after reading this poemis that Robert Frost was tryng to make the person in the poem sound like he or she is a person who has to stuck with two decision and is not sure to make the right or make one decision. The person in the poem is similar to a Hiker, hiking on a mountain and when he or she reaches a two way road you have to make a decision or you will be stuck there and just hope that you made a good decision.

2. The image reflect the emotions conjured by the poem because the picture shows a hiker and trail and the hiker is stopping, to think did he make the good decision to take that road or should he have took the other road.

Shel Silverstein-If The World Was Crazy

1. Emotions and Feelings I have after reading the poem is that the writer is going to do what he or she may want no matter what others may think or say and he or she will do things that may look crazy and what is normally not done.

2. The image I chose that reflects the emotions conjured by the poem is the Burger King. I chose te Burger Kind because Burger King's Slogan is Have It Your Way and the person in the poem is going to do crazy thing and have it his or her way, no caring what people think or say.

1) Define poetry in ONE sentence

* Poetry is way to express your feelings in a certain way of writing like in a type of certain rhythm.

2) What do you believe determines what is a poem & what is not a poem?

* My opinion on what determines a poem and what does not determines a poem is that the way of writing a poem is in a type og rhythm, and usually a poem does not tell you straight forward about what it is about or what the writer is trying to say, usually a poem has to be read a few times to really understand what the poem means and what the writer is saying. what is not a poem is when it has not type of rhythm to the writing and it tells you exactly what is going on, because my opinion is that a poem is not like an essay. an essay you may read or a story you may read and it tells you directly what the story or essay is about but a poem does not do that.

Still I rise poem by Maya Angelou

This poem is an example of what poetry means to me because in her poem she speaks about no matter how you try to bring her down she will still rise. and she did not say it styaright forward she used saying and other meanings to express what she was trying to say and how she felt.

*Nikki Giovanni's real name is Yolando Cornelia "Nikki" Giovanni. She was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on June 7, 1943 and was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. Possom Crossing by Nikki Giovanni
http://poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/16548

This poem is an example of what poetry means to me because in this poem she tells about the animals and how a mother to be possom was in the middle of the road and drivers should realize that they are not the only ones on the street and that animals and creatures are too. The few poems i read i noticed her title is what the poem will be. For instance Possom Crossing is about a mother to be possom crossing the orad and how the writer is he driver and what happens when you see animals and have to slam on brakes, and her other poems also are the same way. the titile is what the poem is about. But in her poems she has a way of telling her story but in a way where it does not tell you to the point.

Ernest Hemingway

Blog Assignment

Part 1

1. Describe the setting. Why is the idea of a well-lightened place so significant to this short story?
The setting is at at cafe with a bar and it takes place late at night. The idea of a well-lighted place is significant to the short story because, there is not much drama or problems going on and that a well lighted place is a better place to relax and when you want to drink and be alone.

2. Why are the characters nameless
The characters are nameless because it is a short story and the author did not want to tell who is who but only by a description for example the old man his description was gthat he was an old man and the younger waiter who was in a rush and the older waiter who was not in a rush.

3. What is the connection between the old man and the older waiter
The connection between the old man and the older waiter is that they are older and the older waiter understands what the old man may be going through and at the end of the night the older waiter and the old man goes home late and sleeps.

4. Outline the plot of the story. There are 5 pieces to a plot you need to outline each of those five pieces
Conflict: The conflict is that the younger waiter does not want to serve the old man anymore and wants to close the cafe

Rising action: When the older waiter asks the younger waiter who is in a rush because the cafe is not closing yet and the younger waiter does not want to serve the old man anymore and does not understand what the older waiter is trying to tell him about the his youth and confidence and having a job.

Complication: When the older waiter is still talking to the young waiter and the young waiter just does not want to listen.

Climax: In the end the waiter goes bar and rinks like the old man did at the cafe.

Falling action: The conflict is when the cafe is closed the older waiter goes to a bar and he says no thank you to the barman for another copita, and the older waiter noticed a clean well lighted cafe is very different and that he goes home during daylight and sleep and thinks that it may be insomnia and maybe everyone may have it as well.

5. What is the theme? One sentence as a result but back it up with quotes
The theme of the story is to appreciate what you have. For instance the quote the older waiter says to the younger waiter " you have youth, confidence, and a job, you have everything" and the older waiter also said " we are two different kinds and it is not only a question of youth and confidence although those things are beautiful. each night i am reluctant to close up because there may be someone who need the cafe".
